NADMO schools residents as flood displaces them

About 83 persons have been displaced as floods ransacked nine homes in Begoro in the Fanteakwa north municipality of the Eastern region whiles several properties have been destroyed

The rapid destruction by flood as we are entering the raining season has awaken the district office of the National Disaster Management Orgamnisation (NADMO) to embark on public education to sensitize residents on the need to be weary as the rains set in.
The District NADMO cordinatorRev George Opoku Acheampong in an interview after the exercise urged residents living at lower belts to relocate to ensure any unforeseen incident is prevented

He was of the view that public safety is a shared responsibility of all hence the need to do away with all actions that may lead to flooding.

“Our main goal as NADMO is to prevent disasters so we thought it wise to embark on this training to ensure any future troubles are handled before it causes a stir to us. Therefore we all need to support in one way or the other to ensure we live safely” he explained.

The District Chief Executive(DCE), Charles Oware also appealed to residents to desist from throwing rubbish indiscriminately and rather ensure all choked gutters are well desilted to help easy flow of water anytime it rain.

“I believe in dialogue than resorting to the law court so i think it is better to talk to people to desist from engaging in activities that can spark flooding so as to have a incident free rainy season” he added.

Meanwhile, some residents and victims who spoke to the reporter appealed for early intervention as they now live in fear following a caution from the Meteorological department.
